STGCC 2018: Milestone Reached and Chula

Prior to writing this post, seen alot of accounts up on social media regarding event "withdrawals" and whatsnot (especially https://lifeofwota.xyz/ , go take a look. Some of them are witty good articles). A certain idol group somehow gave them "FEELS OVERWHELMING". So much so, that the feels still lingers now. OK, how about me? Lets find out.

So, STGCC is back again. Akiba Stage is back again. Idols are back again. Wallet is crying again. Its kinda routine if you're a wota attending conventions like these. The list of attendees are as followed:

Rie Yunohara
Its her 4th time here. A familiar Riecho wota is in attendance. And she made her offkai session on day 1. Performance wise, its was an almost similar set of songs and Riecho herself is in her cheery friendly self as ever. She's regarded as our big sister in STGCC.

Fukuoka Kanbe Girls
I actually met them during Japan Expo Thailand. The time when Dan the Man was alive with his blog. Hailing from Fukuoka, they're regarded as Fukouka's ambassador of some sort promoting them through music. They're actually fun!

Maimu Kurume
Cosplayer and member of idol group Cherry Girls Project. She attended one of the days dressed up as Naruto's villain Deidara. Performance wise, the crowd was a damper, I believe mainly people are not used to her songs and performance. Perhaps if she is with a group, will generate more buzz?

In Deidara cosplay

MauKana
This duo consists of Mau Nishino and Kanako. I didnt realize that Mau Nishino was actually part of Throughskills, an idol group that disbanded some time ago. And I had her signed CD and been oblivious about it till I saw their bio online. Kanako was also part of Tokyo Clears. Their premise is that you're not too old to be an idol. "Never use age as an excuse"! Such motivation.

Mai Ohmori
Oh... she is back. She's gonna headbutt me again much to the glee of a certain wota comrade. After leaving Jewel Kiss, she is now part of the group Ichigo Miruku ni Somari. To be honest, she is the most bubbly and energetic of the lot.

This edition of STGCC somehow looks pretty underwhelming. Perhaps the clashes of events plays a part. Concurrently we have Natsumatsuri, Hallyu KPOP Fest (just think TIF KPOP version) and EGOIST live in Zepp BigBox on different days. Especially the crowd, it is evident during the Akiba Stage. One can easily count the number of people in attendance. Another reason could be the placement of the Akiba Stage, its literally smack back of the convention, so not much human traffic. Normal event goers just wouldn't want to venture there. I did took a walk around, the contents are OK I guess. I dont know, just didnt have the feel that this edition of STGCC was any special.

obligatory M Bison cosplay!

Main highlight is chula. Winners of the StarsGirl Grand Prix, a competition where the winners bags the right to perform on STGCC main stage for a good whole 40 mins! Their wotas have an interesting set of mixes especially the gachikoi. Want to improve your Geography? listen to it. I wondered how Paraguay and Alaska can be placed in there.

Got whisked to offkai on the pestering of a wota friend. I was sore, disappointed and royally pissed that natsumatsuri tickets "coincidentally" sold out just for Saturday's session. Since I got no activity, why not attend the offkai. Its just 10SGD, way way cheaper than Akishibu's. Arrived the venue late because of some issues off-screen, I manage to see Emika, Hina and Marin only. Didnt do much talking, my Japanese is super crap. Though I kinda make it out Emika likes Saorin from Akishibu. The session was very short, mainly because we were hogging the table and crowds of hungry humans kept streaming in.

Off-kai tix so simple

Offkai session ended with us heading to Lau Pa Sat having a chillout session with a Japan wota. What ensued was a hilarious session of him being impressed with our and teaching us some mixes. Had satay and laid out chekis on table. Kinda reminiscent of that fateful offkai day with 7land.

Satay and chekis blend in well

Day 2 is where can see chula for a good 40 whole mins on stage. Think of it as TIF Hot Stage but in Singapore. Ok.... apart from the emcee session, there were no breaks in between performances. What fascinates me is that not only we had the familiar faces but had newbies joined in too. What I thought they would only support local acts, went in to support them! Its AMAZING. though crowd wise is "rabak" (STGCC please wake up your idea hor).

Day ended with another offkai session, this time is walking around Gardens By The Bay. And the newbie group joined in too, it was their first offkai session with an actual Japanese idol. That innocent happy look on their faces and them megawatt smiles is indicative that they really enjoyed their session. End the day with another photo with Ayano and Emika.

So now the answer to that question: Do I have post event withdrawals? Apart from the withdrawal of cash from the ATM because food in MBS is fucking expensive and chekis arent free, I dont feel it somehow. Perhaps its age? Perhaps I am still pissed with Natsumatsuri? Regardless, its somehow doesnt hit me much. Its like "Ok, day ends, I just want to upload my videos etc". Did have a chat with one of the bros in convention who used to follow idols. We do lament that graduations upon graduations and age creeping up, perhaps its inevitable our feels aren't as strong as before.

Bye $$
Well I still queue up for them....

Also, milestone reached: Cheki Book COMPLETED! As mentioned in a previous post, my goal is to complete this book and call it quits. However I have to rescind that promise as I had miscalculated on how much cheki I had to buy and how much more to complete the book. Thus 2019, will be the final foray and need to clear these promises made with my comrades prior. Mainly these major events

1) Ready To Kiss Thailand Round 2 (COMPLETED)
2) Anime Festival Asia 10 Year Anniversary
3) Japan Expo Thailand 2019
4) Any major JP event in 2019 i.e. TIF, Idol Yokocho, AtJam
5) Perhaps an AKSB one man

Also only exception will be Akishibu Project. Most of my readers would know why.

Chekis obtained:

Mai Chan x2
Riecho x1
Maimu x1
Emika x4
Hina x2
Ayano x2
