Kitty's 6 Idoru Recommendations

Its that time again, a new list of idol recommendations! Groups come and go, music tastes change, thus its time for a new list! To make it interesting, those groups that I listed previously in my other posts not included. So here we go~

1) Stereo Tokyo / Stereo Fukuoka

Do you like EDM? Look no further to Stereo Japan! This group has a unique blend of EDM + idoru reminiscent to another similar group Moso Calibration. Heavy DJ-ing and mixing, this group struck a chord with the anime community too since its music has been played extensively in our local anikura events. Since December, Stereo Tokyo renamed themselves as Sexy Tokyo with the awkward looking background photo in their website. Was informed it was temporary but somehow it remains as that till now.

2) Appare! Harajuku

OK this one is quite biased as its a group I grew fond of! They start their debut this year and their group is fusion of Harajuku elements with idoru music. As mentioned previously in my other article, acclaimed DJ Yunomi also produced some of their music. Recently, they've been invited to quite a number of events, a sign of their popularity growing. In fact, they're heading to Hong Kong in March! A sign of their rising popularity and notice to overseas audience.

3) drop

drop is an a relatively old group with its members hailing from the twintail's association. Current members now are Takky, Misa, Haruna, Mai and Runa. Apart from just being adorably cute, their performances can be quite chaotic and their wotas an interesting bunch. They have their own wota mix too, which goes something like this:

シャイニー
ファイヤー
サンダー
ウォーター
ネイチャー
ポイズン

サクマー

The words denotes their colour and what they represent. If you do attend their lives, be mindful of their chaotic crowd.

4) Ready To Kiss

Here is an interesting idol group. Mainly performing at underground scenes, they have an awesome overture!

Under the Get Crazy label together with group SAY-LA, they actually have a good fanbase in the region. As mentioned in my previous blogpost, their songs are truly addictive! First encountered the group during Japan Expo Thailand 2016, it was then I saw their fans unleashing their truly unique wota mixes/chants. Based on their old MV, they used to have more members. Now, group has dwindled to just 5 strong. Favourite member is Uehara Ayuko.

5) CY8ER

BPM15Q is no more! From the ashes, comes CY8ER! CY8ER is still the same EDM group just with the name change and additional members. A notable member here is Suzukawa Mashiro! Yes, I kid you not. Mashiro left the heavy rock intensive group DEEPGIRL and joined the CY8ER. It took me quite a while to register her as the kawaii EDM-ster. Sadly, nicamoq decided not to continue with CY8ER and left to pursue other stuff.

6) Momoiro Kakumei (Momoiro Revolution)

Back in 2016, Mai Kotone announced that she be ending solo activities and would embark on a group idol project. The name 'Momoiro Kakumei' was one among a set of names which user's can vote during their promotional campaign. Then the group has 4 members including Mainya herself. Now it has grown to 6.

The style of this group is classic idol pop. One of the draw factor is that Mainya's signature song 'DREAMSCAPE' is part of the group's setlist and also this group would always engage viewers on twitcast or showroom. Sometimes you can view their performances live!

BONUS!!

SUPERGIRLS

Alert! Mainstream idol group! This group has gone through numerous lineup changes with members graduating and added in. Ami Maeshima aka Amita though still stays centre-stage. Current group has ex-JUMPIN/SUZUCA member Yumeri. As with other avex idolstreet groups, they are hugely popular in Japan and their cheery pop tunes appeal to fans of all ages.

In conclusion

If you noticed that most listed here has EDM as its selling point. People's music tastes change and EDM is synonymous with partying and having fun, thus the rise of such groups. So infectious that I am drawn to such groups too.

Wonder what the future holds and what other interesting genres groups will adopt to engage the masses~
